When your child is old enough to hold a spoon, it is time to begin teaching that child about dental hygiene. There are brushes that are made specifically for small children. Call and ask your family dentist for assistance. Most dentists offer a free toothbrush when you bring your child in for their first checkup or teeth cleaning appointment.

Begin teaching your child how to brush the gums even before the teeth have come in. Keeping the gums clean is just as important as brushing teeth. As the child grows, you can begin to explain how important good gum and tooth hygiene is for their over-all health. Prevent gum disease!
