5 Ways You Can Create A Healthy Lifestyle For Your Kids

Kids should be encouraged to lead healthy lifestyles from a very young age. Healthy habits that are inculcated in childhood are most likely to stay with a child right through life. Children see what they learn. Getting the whole family involved is one of the best ways to create healthy lifestyles for your kids.

Make healthy food choices

Make it a habit to eat three healthy meals a day with a focus on increasing intake of vegetables, fruits, proteins and carbohydrates. Keep healthy snacks around for those in-between times when kids get hungry.

Encourage physical activity

Exercise is an important part of the growing years (and any lifestyle, for that matter). Kids need at least 60 minutes of physical activity a day to stay fit and healthy and to prevent obesity. Replace your child’s sedentary activities such as watching TV and playing computer games with activities that are more vigorous. Make outdoor activities part of your lifestyle - a family tradition.

Cut out the junk food

Make fast-foods, fried foods and high-calorie sugary foods a rare treat to be had within limits. Sitting in front of the TV and eating should be discourages as this leads to over-eating, with a propensity towards junk foods.

Drink plenty of fluids

Children are naturally active and tend to lose a lot of bodily fluid. If given a choice, most children would rather quench their thirst with sodas and sugary drinks, which can eventually lead to obesity and also cause cavities. Stress on the importance of drinking water and avoid stocking the refrigerator with colas and other sugary drinks.

Get enough sleep

Kids need ten hours of sleep for their bones to grow. Children who get less than the required amount of sleep are more likely to be stressed and perform badly in school.

It’s really not hard to help your kids develop healthy lifestyles, and they will benefit for many years to come!

I suppose there will always be people who need to be told this sort of thing, but I do find this scary :(
Surely, its obvious that children need to eat and drink properly, to both exercise and get enough rest?
    *sigh*
Just a comment on the world we live in that it really does make sense to point this out to people :(

Looking at the list, encouraging your kids to do physical activities (play, tours, hiking) will cover the rest. If they’re playing they will get hungry and thirsty. Give them healthy food and drinks they sure won’t complain. After the day they are sure to be tired, thus giving them a good night’s sleep :)
