Creating A Personal Development Action Plan

There are very few people who can deny ever wanting to do something, but always finding an excuse (not a reason) to keep procrastinating doing it. One of the biggest things you have to deal with in your later life is an endless list of thing you wish you had done, but is too late to do now (which is sometimes simply another excuse). So how do you find that motivation to make that improvement in your life, and how can you make sure you follow it through?

The problems often start when you try and do something that you want to do, instead of something you need to do. There are so many things you may want to improve, but not many things that you need to improve on. Since you have so many things, most people tend to just get the feeling of being overwhelmed or frustrated, and end up doing nothing at all.

The key for many people is to create a personal development action plan. This action plan will help you identify the areas where you need development and help you improve.

So the first thing is to identify an are that you need to improve on, and just forget about the rest. Write these items down on your personal development action plan.

The second thing is to find someone or something that can make you accountable for making that improvement. This can be in the form of a friend, a partner (who also wants to make the same improvement), or a piece of written statement (contract to yourself).

The third thing is to set yourself a tough (but realistic) deadline for achieving that objective. People tend to do things more efficiently when they are pressed for time, so don’t set any goals to achieve at a leisurely pace, otherwise it will never get done.

Lastly, just imagine yourself in 5 or 10 years time, and wishing that you’d done something earlier, but not having the chance to do this anymore. If it doesn’t make you feel bad enough to get off your backside and start doing something, then perhaps this improvement is not something you need, just something you want.

Sound easy enough? Well, the first step is always the hardest, but there’s no secrets and no shortcuts, so don’t use that as an excuse. Create your personal development action plan today and start moving forward in life!
